Guidare il cambiamento digitale per proteggere la montagna: la certificazione EDIH di Dolomist e la nostra visione per il futuro

Driving digital change to protect the mountains: Dolomist's EDIH certification and our vision for the future

A European recognition with local roots

In the heart of the Alps, where technology seems distant and nature speaks louder than data, a different kind of transformation is taking shape.

Dolomist has launched a program within the European EDIH – European Digital Innovation Hub – program , which supports companies in developing applied digital innovation. Currently, we are collaborating with EDIH partners through the Orientation service, the first step in strengthening our digital skills and tools to serve the region.

This journey represents a concrete opportunity for us to continue investing in digital innovation rooted in local communities , generating real value for people, culture, and fragile landscapes. At Dolomist, we have always believed that technology should serve to protect what matters , not accelerate its disappearance.

A digital maturity score that sets standards

As part of the EDIH program, we completed the Digital Maturity Assessment (DMA) —an in-depth analysis of how we use technology to drive growth, resilience, and public impact.

The result: 84% – ADVANCED.

This places us not only among the most digitally mature companies in our sector, but well above national and European benchmarks:

  • Dolomist vs. sector and EU benchmarks:
  • Dolomist: 84%
  • Average tourism and travel in Italy: 52%
  • EU tourism and travel average: 39%
  • Average EU microenterprise share: 36%
  • Tourism microenterprises in Italy: 43%
  • Overall EU average: 40%

It's not just about outperforming other players. It's about demonstrating that innovation in mountain and rural areas is not only possible—it can be groundbreaking.

Why we participated: Rethinking digital with a purpose

This recognition confirmed our vision, but also pushed us to go deeper, to challenge our certainties and to lead with awareness.

In a world where digital is often synonymous with automation, extraction, or hyper-efficiency, we asked ourselves a different question:

Can digital adapt to the slower pace of the mountains?

Can it support local economies, strengthen human relationships, and protect ecosystems—rather than standardize, consume, and accelerate?

The DMA has offered us a precious opportunity to reflect, rethink, and reimagine what technology should be like in the most fragile and culturally rich contexts. For us, digital transformation isn't a race. It's a design challenge, a long-term responsibility.

What we are building with the EDIH fund

This support isn't just a technical opportunity: it's an opportunity to design digital solutions responsibly and consistently with our values.

We will invest these funds in the creation of an ecosystem of digital tools, co-designed with scientific partners from the NOI Techpark and innovation clusters in South Tyrol. These collaborations are already shaping our next phase of work:

  • AI for dynamic route recommendation , to reduce overcrowding and adapt in real time to environmental changes
  • Predictive analytics and data governance to help public stakeholders responsibly manage mountain territories
  • Human-centric technological interfaces to enhance guides, operators and local communities, improving their digital skills and visibility

The people behind the code

Every line of code we write is born from the values we share.

  • Matteo Di Lisciandro , Board Member of Dolomist , leads the innovation strategy and directs our vision, supporting expansion into areas where nature and culture are most at risk. His leadership translates mountain values into an institutional roadmap.
  • Francesco Vezzani , a developer at Dolomist , creates the tools that transform this vision into action. From AI to digital infrastructure, he ensures ethical, scalable, and human-centered systems.

Together with the digital team, they are building solutions that allow people to experience and protect mountain territories in a more authentic and sustainable way.

Why should institutions care?

This work isn't just for Dolomist. It's a model .

We believe that the future of outdoor economies will be driven by agile organizations capable of collaborating with public institutions to co-design sustainable solutions. Digital technology should not disintegrate , but regenerate .

We are ready to collaborate with:

  • Regional and national tourist boards
  • EDIH and DIH Networks
  • European programmes for rural innovation
  • Municipalities and local development agencies

Dolomist demonstrates that, with the right vision and the right partners, even micro-enterprises can generate changes of scale.

Let's design the future of the mountains together

Our mission has always been rooted in the land. Now, with the support of EDIH and our scientific partners, we are building a future where digital empowers without invading.

The future of mountain travel won't be decided in boardrooms. It will be built step by step, connecting with places, people, and values.

Thanks

We would like to thank Ambra Barbini of IDM Südtirol – Alto Adige for her guidance throughout the certification process. Her support was crucial in aligning Dolomist's strategy with the values and structure of the EDIH program and connecting us to a broader innovation ecosystem.

Thanks also to the EDIH network , for recognizing that digital transformation can (and must) be a tool for regeneration, not replacement —especially in areas that require care, vision, and respect.
