What is done?

Each experience is designed to reconnect with nature and make new friends. Here's what we'll do in this one:

  • 2-day guided snow trek

We'll spend two days immersed in the hushed silence of winter with Omar, our expert guide, following some of the most captivating snow-covered landscapes of the Carnic Alps. We'll ascend through still forests, luminous valleys, and mountain huts that emerge from the snow like tiny mountain beacons. We'll walk slowly and mindfully, listening to nature's rhythm and letting the landscape unfold before us: sudden vistas, ridges glistening in the sun, valleys suspended in the white. It will be an authentic adventure, made of shared steps and sincere discoveries.

  • Masterclass: Discover the snow-capped mountain

Along the way, we'll stop to observe, understand, and learn. We'll discover how to read the snow, recognize wildlife tracks, interpret the terrain, and face winter with safety and respect. We'll explore topics such as orientation, pace management, equipment selection, and responsible behavior in snowy environments. Through sensory exercises and guided observation sessions, we'll learn to capture sounds, shapes, and details that often escape our notice: the rustling of the wind through the larches, the texture of the ice, the subtle presence of forest animals.

  • 1 night at the Gortani Refuge with half board

At the end of the first day, we'll be welcomed by the warmth of the Gortani Refuge, an authentic place where the mountains are experienced in their simplest and most authentic form. Seated in the dining room, amid the aromas of local cuisine and warm wood, we'll share stories, laughs, and a dinner that will restore body and spirit. The night will pass peacefully, wrapped in the silence of the snow and, if we're lucky, under a star-studded sky. In the morning, a hearty breakfast will give us the energy we need for the climb up Monte Cocco and to complete the adventure.

Day 1

On the colors of the snow towards the Gortani Refuge

+ 550m | 10.5 km

After meeting up, we'll head to the starting point and park our cars to immediately immerse ourselves in the tranquility of the small Rio Rauna valley. We'll begin climbing through silent woods and fresh snow, into one of the snowiest corners of the Carnic Alps, where the fairytale atmosphere will guide us step by step. We'll reach Malga Priu, where the forest will suddenly open up to reveal a magnificent panorama of the Italian Julian Alps. After a contemplative break, we'll continue towards Casera Mezesnig, which welcomes us like a balcony suspended at 1,400 meters, amidst the fine air and crystalline light.
From here, we'll begin the descent toward the Collarice Pass along forest trails immersed in the winter silence, dotted with wooden huts and corners of pristine nature. A final climb will take us to the wide pastures of the Rauna Valley, dotted with mountain huts perfectly integrated into the landscape. After returning to the cars to collect our luggage, we'll ascend to the Gortani Refuge, where Angela and her staff will welcome us with warmth, authentic cuisine, and a well-deserved Alpine rest.

Day 2

Towards the top of Monte Cocco

+ 820m | 10 km

After a hearty breakfast, we'll begin the climb toward the mining village of Monte Cocco, crossing dense forests where the silence is broken only by the sounds of the wind and the local fauna. With a bit of luck, we'll encounter deer and other inhabitants of these valleys. We'll reach the remains of the mine, a fascinating place steeped in stories of work and the mountains: it'll be the perfect time for a themed break.
We'll then resume our journey toward the open spaces before the saddle between Monte Cocco and Cima Bella. With a final, thrilling effort, we'll reach the summit of Monte Cocco at 1,941 meters, from which we'll enjoy a breathtaking view of the Julian and Carnic Alps, a veritable treasure trove of mountains stretching as far as the eye can see.
After a long scenic break, we'll descend along a previously traveled stretch and follow the Tamer River valley, returning to the Gortani Refuge along paths and mule tracks shrouded in woodland. From here, we'll quickly reach the cars for the return journey to the valley, our hearts filled with the images and silence of winter.

Meet the Team ✌🏼

Hi, I'm Omar, the mountains are my home!
As a child, I explored the alpine meadows; as I grew older, I challenged rocks and glaciers. I'm a mountaineer, rescuer, and manager of the Rifugio De Gasperi. Now, as a medium-mountain guide, I continue to experience the Dolomites with passion.

I've hiked many mountains, from Friuli to all over Europe, but the trail that makes me happiest is the one I share with others every day. See you on the trail!
