8 days between tent and nature: Altavia 1 of the Dolomites ⛺️✨⛰️

The first day begins with the bus trips to Lake Braies, where we will leave the cars for the return. The meeting point and time will be communicated later. During the trip we will have time to chat and prepare our backpacks. Once we arrive at the lake, our adventure will begin across the plateau near the Biella refuge, an enchanting place.

We will reach the Fanes refuge and cross the picturesque pastures between the peaks of Fanes, Furcia Rossa and Lagazuoi. A green oasis with cows and horses, gentle streams and red peaks. We will climb a steep fork, descending towards an enchanting lake, surrounded by the imposing Tofane.

During this stage we will cross two famous Dolomite passes: first the Falzarego pass and then the Giau pass. Among these, we will pass near the Cinque Torri and, if we wish, we will go up to the Nuvolau refuge. It will be another unforgettable day among flowering rhododendrons and crystal clear lakes.

On this day we will cross the beautiful and green Mondeval plateau, we will admire the famous Baste lake, a reflection of the Pelmo. We will discover the burial of a Mesolithic man and dinosaur footprints! Once we arrive at the campsite, we can relax and enjoy a hot shower, stock up on supplies at the minimarket and maybe enjoy a pizza!

This stage has a single protagonist: the Civetta. We will cross the immense majesty of this massif, admiring the famous north face: 1000 meters of vertical rock, with a valley gently nestled below it. We will reach Lake Coldai, a hidden gem under the great wall, and we will travel through the enchanting Val Civetta.

After completing the circumnavigation of the Civetta, we will find ourselves in front of the Moiazza, with its imposing vertical walls and the surrounding green meadows, a spectacle of great majesty! At this stage of the route, we may encounter some slightly more exposed sections, which will remind us that the easiest part of the journey is now behind us!|

On the seventh day we enter the wildest part of the Alta Via. Many hikers end their journey at Passo Duran, but ignore the most interesting section: that of the Belluno Dolomites. Here the paths become more difficult and less frequented, while the refuges are more rustic. Although the surrounding peaks are less high, they retain an incredible charm. The location for our last night in the tent is absolutely my favorite!

Unfortunately, the last day of our crossing has arrived. During this stage, almost entirely downhill, we will admire the majestic mass of the Schiara, which still separates us from Belluno. Since crossing it requires difficult via ferratas, we will end our Alta Via in La Muda, a small town in the Agordina valley. From here we will take a bus to reach Belluno, where we will celebrate the completion of our undertaking at the tourist office, receiving the pin as evidence of our journey.
